A ceramic coating is only as good as the care you give it. The same habits keep a coating glossy and slick, whether it is on paint or applied over paint protection film.
Washing routine
- Rinse the car first to float off loose dirt.
- Use a pH-neutral car shampoo and a clean microfiber or wash mitt.
- Use the two-bucket method: one bucket for soap, one to rinse the mitt.
- Wash from top to bottom, panel by panel.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean microfiber drying towel.
What to avoid
- Automatic washes with brushes
- Harsh degreasers, strong acids and dish soap
- Washing in direct sun, which causes spots
- Letting bird droppings and bug splatter sit
- Dirty towels and mitts that grind grit across the surface
Houston-specific tips
Heat bakes dirt on quickly, so wash in the early morning or evening. Rain leaves mineral spots. Dry the car if it gets wet, or use a spray detailer. Wash more often in summer.
Keep the slickness alive
Over time water beading fades as the surface gets contaminated. A ceramic spray or booster every few months restores slickness and gloss.
